The Correlation Between Reading and Writing.

I love to read. I love to write. I’ve noticed something today. There is a direct correlation between how much I read and how much I write.

This year I’ve been reading a whole bunch (for me). I’ve set a goal to read fifty two books this year and as of today (January 25) I have complete six and I’m well on my way to the completion of the seventh. I’ve noticed that the more I read, the more I want to write.  Even though I have kept a good pace in my reading this year I have slowed down just a bit over the last week. During this time that my reading pace has slowed down I’ve noticed a decrease in my desire to write.  This morning I decided it was time to get back on pace with my reading. I read my daily Bible reading first and then dove back into the book that I’m currently reading.  When it was time to stop reading, get to work and tend to my responsibilities as a pastor I felt the desire to write bubbling back up inside me.

I remember when I was a kid. It was the late 60’s, early 70’s.  In the afternoons after school I would turn the television on (if my parents were not home) and watch an episode of Daniel Boone. I loved those stories of this great frontiersman.  As soon as the show would end I would run out the door, into the yard and then into the woods around our home. I was “Daniel Boone”.  Watching those shows me want to be the man.
